who’s who
We are blessed to have two communities served by many faithful and committed volunteers, many of whom serve “behind the scenes” to make sure our churches keep ticking over. We would love to include everyone on this page, from those who diligently serve teas and coffees, arrange flowers, clean toilets, play instruments, lead small groups, serve on the PCC and hold our communities in prayer, but to include all of that might be a little much for one page. The people here simply represent the community in one way or another, and while it’s good to know everyone, these are especially helpful people to know.

Rev'd Tobias Lancaster
Priest-in-Charge
Tobias (Toby) is a native to the south-east coast of England, having grown up in Worthing, then Brighton, before moving to Hastings in 2021 with his wife and two children. He is passionate about Jesus, theology, Tolkien, coffee, and autism. He was licensed as Priest-in-Charge of the Parish in March 2025.

Rev'd Maureen Hinkley
Distinctive Deacon
with Permission to OfficiateMaureen has lived and faithfully served in the parish for most of her life, so she is a familiar and much loved presence in the local community. She has been based primarily at St John’s where she leads services and helps in many other capacities.

Rev'd Jenny Heinink
Priest
with Permission to OfficiateJenny worked as an RE teacher for many years and has written and taught theological biblical studies in various settings. Upon retirement as Associate Priest of a church on the outskirts of London, Jenny and husband Paul relocated to Battle. As well as being an ordained priest, Jenny is a gifted pianist.

Rev'd Canon John Fletcher
Priest
with Permission to Officiate
John is a regular feature of services in both churches in the parish. He has been in ministry in the Church of England for many years, having served in parishes at Erith, Rushden, Hastings and East London. He was also a Team Chaplain at New Wine for many years. Now retired, John takes services at St John’s on the first Sunday of the month, and at P&P on the second Sunday of the month. -
